Folger Rug

From our Nantucket Collection. Named for the Folger family, among the island's earliest English families. Peter Folger brought his wife and children to Nantucket in 1663, and his youngest daughter, Abiah, born on the island, became the mother of Benjamin Franklin. Generations of Folgers followed, from whaling captain Timothy Folger, who shared his chart of the Gulf Stream with his cousin Franklin, to James A. Folger, who left for the California Gold Rush and founded Folgers Coffee.

The Folger Rug
Hand-knotted in Afghanistan from pure wool, this piece takes a storied village design of geometric medallions and bold, pennant-like borders and gives it a fresh, updated palette. Lively and full of character, it brings color and warmth to a family room, study, or entry.

Colors in Detail
The field is a soft slate blue, like the harbor under a hazy summer sky. Across it, rows of medallions glow in brick red and burgundy, golden ochre and saffron, sage and seafoam green, teal, and ivory, like a collection of painted buoys hanging on a weathered shed. A border of pennant shapes in the same bright colors flutters around the edge like signal flags, framed by narrow stripes of diamonds and stars in red, ivory, green, and blue.

Folger Rug
